Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to speak to nearly 800 bright-eyed elementary school students in Waynesboro about the impactful work of Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County. It was a heartwarming experience to witness their eagerness to learn about the importance of safe, affordable housing in our community.

As I shared stories about Habitat’s mission, the students were not only attentive but also deeply curious. They grasped the concept that living in a community means being kind and helpful to one another. It was inspiring to see these young minds understand that, even at their age, they can contribute to building a better world.

Opportunities like these reinforce the powerful mission of Habitat for Humanity: transforming houses and lives by bringing people together for a common purpose. Although these students aren’t ready to swing hammers just yet, they are already learning about compassion and the joy of giving back. Perhaps a few future Habitat volunteers or homeowners were among those enthusiastic listeners.

Engaging with these students was a reminder of the potential each of us has to inspire and effect change. It’s not just about building structures; it’s about nurturing a spirit of community and generosity in the next generation.
