Twenty-one high school sophomores graduated on April 17 from a year-long leadership training program hosted by the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation at Wilson College.

The Leadership Franklin County (LFC) Youth graduates completed their leadership development journey with speeches at graduation highlighting the specific areas that the program had challenged and helped them develop as individuals and leaders.

Family, friends, educational partners and mentors were present to congratulate the following graduates:

• Chambersburg Area Senior High School: Raeann Black, Marley Christopher, Zoe Dereef, Izzy Rea,

Kaden Rife

• Cumberland Valley Christian School: Landon Kellogg

• Greencastle-Antrim High School: Lily Basalik, Sean Heinrichs, Jensen Keefer, Mattson Lucabaugh, Gabbi Martin, Catalina Reiber, Gracie Russell, Sam Weaver

• Fannett-Metal High School: Jacob Goshorn, Kyra Kotmair

• Shalom Christian Academy: Katie Montoro

• Shippensburg Area Senior High School: Lessa Luffy

• Waynesboro Area Senior High School: Seth Cole, Marissa Hedin, Kyler Hutchins

The LFC Youth program is a nine-month leadership training course where incoming sophomore high school students gain leadership skills, learn more about the community and find ways to serve others. The program’s curriculum is based on “The Five Practices of Exemplary Student Leadership” and focuses on diversity and inclusion, career exploration, service learning and public speaking.

LFC Youth was founded in 2009 with the mission “to create a community of young people who are actively engaged in responsible, ethical and effective leadership.” The program offers a valuable opportunity to students of any school in Franklin County, including home school, and is available at no cost to students thanks to Wilson College’s sponsorship.

“It is more important than ever to help develop leadership skills in our students and provide them with a place to learn & grow during that process,” said Virginia Harriger, executive director of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation. “We had another incredibly talented group and are confident that they will find meaningful ways to impact our community. Thank you to Wilson College for supporting this program and to all the community business leaders who volunteer to help our youth.”
